Finding your way: What inspires us To Move

Inspiration to be more physically active often comes from small, meaningful moments—like the feeling of accomplishment after a walk, the energy boost from a morning stretch, or the realization that movement makes daily tasks easier. Sometimes it’s sparked by wanting to keep up with loved ones, explore new places without limits, or simply feel better in your own body.

Whether it's a desire to improve health, boost mood, or reclaim a sense of strength and control, finding a personal reason to move can turn physical activity from a chore into a source of joy and empowerment.

Explore the answers to these questions and discover what motivates you to include more physical activity in your day. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week.

Being sedentary (not moving around much daily) will cause obesity, high risk of heart attack and other heart problems, diabetes, some cancers, osteoporsis, sleep problems, raises risk of dementia, and loss of lean muscle.

We don't realize how much our family and friends miss doing activities with us, but they do. Being sedentary or not enough physical activity affects your mood and/or physical abilities to do certain things which leads to often declining offers for group get-togethers and other activites.

Physical activity will improve your mood, help you sleep better, and be more active every day. For the best results you need to be active especially when you are tired, bored, in a not-so-good mood.

Make a plan the night before to participate in some form of activity. Set and follow your SMART goals. Tell someone what your plan is so you are accountable. The more active you are, the easier (and more fun) it gets.

There isn't a good reason to avoid being physically active unless you're sick or injured, or your doctor says no. Always try to get at least 30 minutes of some kind of activity in every day.

Having a buddy to workout with will help you both stay focused and inspire each other to stay on task. Plus its fun to have at least 30 minutes all to yourselves to chat!

Using S.M.A.R.T. goals will help you reach your health goals. Read all about it HERE.

When you reach your goals, reward yourself with something meaningful and set new goals. Reach for the stars!

Sign up for a group activity such as group fitness class, pickleball tournament, or go for it by signing up for a local 5k run. Better yet ask a friend to join you to be workout buddies.

Fitness clothing is more than just comfortable. Use it as one reminder to do something physical every day. Also, .buy a good fitting pair of walking shoes and leave them by the door to remind yourself to go for a walk.
